Well, the Xbox LIVE Marketplace has the first confirmed million dollar generating download in Activision's Call of Duty 2 Map packs.
Here is the map pack download details:
- Free Bonus Pack (2 Maps) - 334,000 downloads
- $5 Skirmish Pack - 105,000 downloads for a cool $368,000
- $10 Invasion Pack - 66,000 downloads for a cool $500,000
Here are some snippets from the analyst conference call:
"During the quarter our Call of Duty maps generated approximately $1 million in revenue, a critical first step in exploiting the online revenue potential and extending the shelf life of our games," said Kotick. "This holiday we'll look to further capitalize on the success of the franchise and its online capabilities."
With results like this we will certainly see future map packs and downloadable content from our friends at Activision (and in general from all publishers). Positive side is that they will work on fresh content to liven up your old/tired multiplayers experiences. Negative is that you probably won't see free downloads nearly as often...

Geometry Wars reign as the 'Halo' of Xbox LIVE Arcade is in serious jeopardy as the highly anticipated release of Capcom's Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting is set for Wednesday, August 2nd.
This franchise has been released and rehashed on consoles (including Xbox) for quite a while now...
So why the huge anticipation?
Lets break it down:
- Quarter Match - For the first time, Street Fighter will allow you to truly re-experience the geeky arcade euphoria of taking on all challengers trying to take over your turf...
- Summer Drought - with every new system comes the unfortunate summer drought period... After the highs of the month of March (GRAW and Oblivion), many an Xbox Fanboy has sadly had the case of gaming blue balls...
- HD - Street fighter in high definition...
- 800 Points - around $10 bones... dirt cheap considering what the online modes bring...
Taken seperately, these factors would certainly bump up the sales... Ahh, young fanboy, but taken together and you have a created the perfect storm...
Full Game Details:
Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, brings its arcade classic to Xbox Live® Arcade with Street Fighter® II’ Hyper Fighting. In addition to several offline modes and numerous leaderboards and achievements, the game takes advantage of the new online features of the Xbox 360™ console’s powerful processing capabilities to create a seamless online multiplayer experience.
Among several online game options is an exclusive mode called "Quarter Match," a new way of reliving the exhilarating arcade experience at home. Xbox 360 users can access Xbox Live Arcade to download a free, feature-limited version of the game which offers two playable characters for one match. When you're ready for the ultimate retro gaming experience, unlock the full version of the game and choose from all eight original characters as well as four boss characters, each with their own special endings and home levels.
-
Quarter Match: In an entirely new mode specifically created for Xbox Live Arcade, "Quarters" are used to virtually represent players and pays homage to the arcade tradition of claiming the right to play the next game.
-
Quick Match: Jump into a match quickly for instant action.
-
Custom Match: The best possible match is determined by sorting through a set of filters, including number of rounds, turbo speed, chat on or off, and friends only.
-
Create Match: The most popular method for coordinating invite-only matches among friends which allows you to choose among several settings and host games.
-
Offline game options: Play Arcade Mode, Vs. Mode, Training Mode, or CPU Battle.
-
Multiple features: Enjoy comprehensive leaderboards, achievements, customizable control options, and updated menu screens.

In a recent Joystiq interview with Ross Erickson (Xbox LIVE Arcade's worldwide games portfolio manager), it was revealed that it is Microsoft's intent to release a game a week on Xbox LIVE Arcade.
Peter Moore said there was going to be 160 games on the console by the holidays. Unless there's some huge amount of 360 titles we don't know about, a lot of those games are going to be Arcade games. You've announced 21-30 games by the fall. Do you think you're going to be able to hit the once a week until the end of the year.
It's a daily issue for us to continue working with the developers as they move towards their final milestones. We certainly have enough games in the pipeline – more than enough, in fact – to achieve that goal on a weekly basis. We're not announcing anything in terms of what's beyond Pac-Man at this point; there are enough games in the pipeline to last for a very, very long time.
Publishers typically shy away from releasing during the summer months, particularly with AAA titles. The Xbox LIVE Arcade Wednesday release schedule has certainly helped alleviate the summer drought for the kids that play inside...
