The Xbox 360 HD DVD player was on sale today at Amazon for a discounted $79.99 as their Deal of the Day.  A full $100 off retail and is currently the top selling video game item on Amazon!  The Xbox 360 add on promptly sold out at around 6:15 a.m. EST.

Is this the first of many deeply discounted deals for this accessory to perhaps clear out stock? 

Is HD DVD doomed as movie studios join the Blu-ray camp?
